Special people...and psoriasis

When I switched high schools 25 years ago it was hard, and it was terrifying and it was stressful. I remember actually eating lunch on several occasions in the stairwell. I didn't have any friends, and I missed my old friends.  The only person that would talk to me was this kid with an odd skin condition, which was fine, except that's all he wanted to talk about. I learned more about psoriasis than I ever imagined. I spent those first few weeks eating my lunches in a stairwell, listening to a boy tell me about his skin rash. Come to think of it, maybe my weight loss wasn't due to stress.
Did you know turmeric can help that pesky skin rash? Neither did I.

Then somewhere along the way, I met someone who changed my life. Someone who made the whole school move worthwhile.

I met my best friend.

I no longer ate in the stairwell. We hid out together in the newspaper classroom. We gossiped, and talked, and had each other's back. She was brilliant, and talked using all the big words from the books I read, but couldn't pronounce (reader's hazard).  She was beautiful, and classy, and dignified and oh so witty (she should have a blog). She was there for me during the good decisions, and supportive with the bad decisions (even though she probably warned me). She saw me through several boyfriends and a heartbreak or two, and she was at my side when I married my husband. She was there to put my kids to bed one night when I needed her the most. I have been fortunate enough to get to get to know her son, and knowing him reinforces everything I know to be great about her. Anyone who raises a child who dresses up as Bill Nye the Science Guy for Halloween is obviously doing something right.

We had good times, and really bad times. Recently, she moved far, far away and I miss her so. She is an amazing woman, a wonderful mom and a great friend. And today is her birthday. Happy birthday CT....I hope it was amazing, and I wish I could have spent some of it with you. Love you. <3 nbsp="" p="">

Monday, July 18, 2016!

I can't believe its been over a year since I last posted in this blog. I always have such good intentions. I write countless posts in my head...that counts, right? There should be an app for that. Brain to blog communication. Just think, I could say embarrassing things and alienate myself without even having to touch a keyboard! But since such a beautiful thing doesn't yet exist, at least within my security clearance and budget, I'm updating the old fashioned way. I had to update my profile a bit, as well. Life changes a lot in a year.

I finally finished school, and got my degree! Yay me! Then I used it to get a job. And then another job. Unfortunately, it's a degree in Early Childhood Education, which guarantees that I will never make any money. But they say I'm enriching lives and shaping little futures, and all that crap. I just picked it because I wanted to finger paint, and play with play dough all day. All those little people that I hang around with all day are also fun. Except when they're picking their nose and sneakily trying to wipe it on me. I'm always relieved when they eat it, because at least I know where it went. I've developed a kind of booger radar. There should be an app for that.
They're setting up a booger ambush.

We also moved, and all our new neighbors seem to be genuinely good, normal, stable people. No more pom pom girl or tape worm guy.  I don't see a lot of good blog material in this neighborhood, but consequently, it is a good place to live. It's nice to be able to go outside without arming myself, and the kids can play without bringing me along as a bodyguard. Although, I was dive bombed by a little bird a few minutes ago, so there are still some risks.

Let's see, what else...I've started to do yoga. Sporadically, but that counts. I'm eating well, and I quit drinking. OK, those are both lies. I quit cussing, too. Fuck no, I didn't. My kids are all a year older, and that's the truth. So am I, I guess. We have a new dog, and a new hamster. New goals, new plans...

And oh yeah! I wrote a book, The Paperback Riddle! I took a break from writing my grown up book, and wrote a little story for my kids. I ended up self-publishing on Amazon, and I have to say it's kind of a thrill to see it in print! It even has some good reviews! Granted, most of them are family and friends, and they have to say nice things, but there are a few legit ones too! Check it out and let me know what you think! Pretty please?

Unless you hate it, then I'll just be over here in the corner humming, with my fingers in my ears...
